Visual Arts in the City
Many cities are known for there sports teams, others their iconic buildings. Some even attract people from all around with a hot dog. Although our skyline isn't famous, the sports teams...well I don't even really know about them, and there is no Charlotte dog, we find our riches in the arts. Throughout the city, there are numerous distinguished venues, as well as examples of public art to catch the eye and capture our intuition when we walk through the streets. The arts in our city are a gathering place for the community, an epicenter for self-expression and exploration.
Art and Me
Bank of America Fresco
What can I say? I love art. I have always enjoyed the realm of art, looking at work of well-known artists and creating my own work. Visiting museums gives me inspiration; looking into the techniques and combinations of mediums that each artist uses. Perhaps most interesting is how every artist has their own "hand", much like each singer has a voice, or writer a style. Every artist chooses to represent things in different ways, with different colors, textures, from thick layers of paint and sculpted brushstrokes, to thin washes of watercolor. There is nothing like popping in and out of local galleries along shop-filled streets, seeing an entire landscape, people, and identity represented through a canvas. Art is special in that it communicates, whether it be an event, a scene of nature, or an idea. Having the opportunity to visit art venues, allowed me to see, connect, and think about the ideas of artists from the world stage to locals in Charlotte.
